William Twiston-Davies will ride Croquembouche

Ed de Giles is expecting a big run from Croquembouche in the £30,000 feature race at Musselburgh on Friday.

The top-weight, set to give Willy Twiston-Davies his first ride at the East Lothian venue, faces ten rivals in the Archerfield Cup which is staged over an extended 1m 5f.

De Giles, based at Ledbury in Herefordshire, said: “He threw a nasty splint, that’s why he hasn’t run since May.

“We’re going into unknown territory with the trip but hopefully he will stay.

“We’ve also given him an entry in the Ebor but this is a valuable prize too and he gets the three-year-old allowance.”

Among those up against Croquembouche is Saeed Bin Suroor’s Future Empire, one of three rides for Godolphin jockey James Doyle who  is also making his maiden visit to Musselburgh.

Mighty Yar, trained by Lady Cecil and partnered by Tom Queally, is another interesting contender in the richest event on the card.

Doyle’s first ride is on Tholen in the opening nursery and he is aboard Human Nature in the conditions stakes half an hour later.
